Mala Mala Airport, opened in the late 20th century to serve the iconic Mala Mala Game Reserve, is a small, single-terminal airstrip that functions as a key gateway for safari lodges in the Sabi Sand/Greater Kruger area. Compact but strategically important, it handles mainly light aircraft and charter transfers rather than scheduled airline traffic, making it an essential link for luxury game-viewing itineraries. Ground transfers connect the airstrip to Hoedspruit and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, and many travelers arrive by pre-booked shuttle or private car. Flights are typically operated by safari charter operators such as Federal Air and private charters, and because most services are bespoke, travel to and from the airstrip is generally on the pricier side compared with regional airports.
