Makhachkala Airport

Makhachkala’s Uytash Airport, opened in the early 1950s, is the principal gateway to the Republic of Dagestan, featuring one main passenger terminal with separate domestic and international halls. This modest but strategically important regional airport links the North Caucasus with Moscow, St. Petersburg and neighbouring Caspian and Caucasus destinations, and is a convenient entry point for the region’s mountain scenery and Caspian coast. Located just outside the city, it’s reachable by taxi, shared minibuses and regional buses in roughly 20–40 minutes depending on traffic. Fares are generally affordable on domestic and low-cost Russian carriers, and the airport functions as a regional base for several local airlines while hosting regular services by major Russian carriers.
