Makemo

Makemo Airport, opened in the late 1970s, is a compact regional gateway on Makemo Atoll with a single small terminal and one runway, serving as an important link in the Tuamotu chain. Though modest in size, it handles regular Air Tahiti domestic flights to Papeete and neighboring atolls and is frequently used by charters connecting diving sites and pearl farms. The airfield is a short drive from the main village and easy to reach on foot or by local taxi; connections onward typically require island transport. Travelers should expect domestic fares to be higher than mainland routes, while on-site costs remain modest.
