Kulyab Airport

Kulyab Airport, opened in the Soviet era around the 1960s, is a compact regional airport serving the city of Kulyab (Kulob) and the wider Khatlon region; it operates from a single small terminal and handles mostly domestic and occasional regional flights. As the main air gateway to southern Tajikistan, it’s important for business and seasonal tourism heading toward the Pamir foothills, with road connections and regular taxis and minibuses linking the airport to Kulyab city center (roughly 10–20 km) and longer coach routes to Dushanbe (about 200 km). Not a major airline hub, it’s served by carriers such as Tajik Air and Somon Air and is generally considered budget-friendly for domestic travellers, though international options can be limited.
