Kavieng Airport

Kavieng Airport opened in the 1940s (built during the WWII era and modernized since) and operates from a single compact terminal serving New Ireland Province; it’s a small but vital regional gateway connecting Kavieng town with Port Moresby and nearby islands. The airport handles mainly domestic flights and light charters and is important for tourism, fishing, and local commerce. Located a short drive from Kavieng town center, it’s reachable by taxis and local minibuses with ferry links for island transfers. Not a major international hub, it’s regularly served by Air Niugini and PNG Air and tends to be mid-to-high priced for travelers due to its remote location.
