Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), opened in 1958 as Embakasi Airport, is Kenya’s largest air gateway and one of East Africa’s busiest hubs, with about three terminals including a modern Terminal 2 for international services and older domestic facilities. Located roughly 15–18 km southeast of downtown Nairobi on Mombasa Road, JKIA is well connected by taxis, ride‑hailing (Uber/Bolt), airport shuttles, matatus and the Nairobi Expressway for faster road access. The airport serves as the primary hub for Kenya Airways and a base for Jambojet and several regional carriers. Travelers will find budget airline options and affordable ground transport, though some airport services and dining can be pricey.
