Ilaam Airport, opened in the 1960s, is a compact regional airport with a single modest passenger terminal that handles mainly domestic services. As the primary air gateway for Ilam province and the nearby border region, it plays a useful role in connecting western Iran with Tehran and other regional centers, though it is far smaller than major international airports. The airport is a short drive from Ilam city center and is reachable by taxi, shared minibus services and rental car—public transport options are limited but practical for most travelers. Fares and on-site prices tend to be budget-friendly compared with larger hubs, and regular operators include Iran Air, Aseman Airlines and Mahan Air on key domestic routes; Ilaam is not a major airline hub but offers convenient, affordable connections for regional travel.
