Opened in 1953, Houari Boumediene Airport is Algiers’ principal international gateway and Algeria’s busiest airport, with roughly three passenger terminals handling national and regional traffic as well as international flights. Located about 20 km southeast of central Algiers on the Mediterranean coast, the airport is easily reached by motorway, regular airport shuttle buses, taxis and car hire, with onward regional connections by coach and domestic flights. Important for North African travel, it serves as the main hub for Air Algérie and a base for Tassili Airlines. Fares tend to be more affordable than many European hubs, though international routes can run moderate to high depending on season and demand.
