Gwadar’s airport began as a small airstrip in the 1950s and was replaced by the New Gwadar International Airport, which opened in 2024; the facility operates from a single modern passenger terminal and one primary runway, positioning it as a growing regional gateway for Balochistan and the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor. The airport is medium-sized but strategically important, located roughly 30 km from Gwadar city with road links via the Makran Coastal Highway, taxis and scheduled shuttle services providing the main public connections. Air service is mostly domestic and limited international, with Pakistan International Airlines and select domestic carriers operating routes; fares tend to be affordable for local travel but international options can be pricier due to limited competition.
