Girua Airport

Opened in the mid-20th century, Girua Airport (PNP) is a compact regional airport with a single terminal serving Popondetta and Oro Province, Papua New Guinea. As the primary air gateway to the Kokoda Track and nearby coastal communities, Girua plays an outsized role for trekkers, aid workers and local trade despite its modest size. The airport offers basic passenger facilities and easy road transfers into Popondetta and surrounding villages, with taxis and shuttle options connecting to nearby towns; scheduled domestic flights link mainly to Port Moresby and Lae. Not a major international hub, Girua is regularly served by Air Niugini and PNG Air, and fares are generally affordable on domestic routes though prices can rise during peak trekking season.
