Fort Smith Airport, opened in the mid-1950s, is a small regional airport serving Fort Smith and the South Slave Region of the Northwest Territories with a single modest passenger terminal. As the primary air gateway to nearby Wood Buffalo National Park and several fly-in communities, it handles scheduled regional flights, charters, medevac and cargo services, making it important for local travel and emergency access. The airport is a short drive from downtown Fort Smith via Highway 5 and is reachable by taxi, car or occasional shuttle, though public transit is limited. Fares are generally affordable on regional carriers but can rise seasonally; the field is not a major airline hub and is mainly served by regional carriers and local charter operators such as Air Tindi and other northern charter services.
