Firenze-Peretola Airport (FLR), officially Amerigo Vespucci, opened in 1931 and operates from a single compact passenger terminal that handles regional and European traffic; it’s the main gateway to Florence and Tuscany for travelers heading to the Duomo, Chianti or the Tuscan coast. Located just 4–6 km northwest of the historic centre, FLR is easily reached by shuttle bus and taxi in about 15–25 minutes, with Santa Maria Novella rail links nearby for onward trains to Pisa and Rome. Not a major airline hub, it hosts services from ITA Airways, Vueling and various seasonal/low-cost carriers; fares tend to be moderate to slightly higher than nearby Pisa, so bargain hunters should compare options.
