Essendon Airport

Essendon Airport, opened in 1921 and often called Essendon Fields, is Melbourne’s historic regional airport with one main passenger terminal plus several general aviation terminals and hangars. Once the city’s primary airport, it is now an important hub for regional flights, corporate jets and air charter services, with operators such as Rex and a range of charter companies based there. Located about 11 km northwest of Melbourne’s CBD, Essendon is easily reached by car via CityLink/Tullamarine Freeway, taxis, rideshares and local bus links to nearby train stations. Travel costs are generally competitive for short regional hops, though on-site parking and premium services can be relatively pricey.
