Emerald Airport (EMD), established in the mid-1960s, is a compact regional airport serving Queensland’s Central Highlands with a single small terminal that handles scheduled and charter services; it’s the main air gateway for Emerald and nearby mining communities. Though modest in size, EMD is important for business and tourism traffic, linking to Brisbane and other regional centers via carriers such as QantasLink and Regional Express (Rex), plus frequent FIFO and charter operators. The airport is an easy 10–15 minute drive from Emerald’s town center with taxis, rental cars and limited bus/shuttle options; fares are generally competitive but can rise during peak mining seasons.
