Eduardo Gomes International Airport, serving Manaus and the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, opened in the mid-1970s and operates from one main passenger terminal that handles both domestic and select international flights. As the primary gateway to Amazonas state, MAO is an important cargo and passenger hub—especially for the Manaus Free Trade Zone and eco-tourism connections—offering regular links to São Paulo, Brasília and regional river towns. Located roughly 10–15 km north of downtown Manaus, the airport is reachable by taxis, shuttle buses, and car rentals via BR-174. Fares are generally mid-priced for domestic travel, and the airport functions as a regional hub for Azul with significant operations by LATAM and Gol.
