Dunhuang Airport opened in the 1980s and operates as a compact regional gateway with a single passenger terminal, serving the historic Silk Road city and nearby tourist sites like the Mogao Caves. Though modest in size, it plays an important role connecting Dunhuang to major domestic hubs, with regular flights to Lanzhou, Xi’an and other provincial capitals operated by carriers such as Air China, China Southern and several regional airlines. The airport sits roughly 10–15 km from downtown Dunhuang and is easily reached by airport shuttle services, taxis and local buses along the Hexi Corridor; fares are generally affordable for domestic travelers, though prices can climb during peak tourism seasons.
