Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA), opened for civilian flights in 2005 on the site of the former RAF Finningley, is a small regional airport with a single passenger terminal that served South Yorkshire and nearby Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. Known for a long runway and compact layout, it provided an easy, low-stress alternative to larger northern hubs with good road links to the A1(M), coach services and Doncaster rail station roughly 10–12 miles away. Historically regarded as an affordable option thanks to low-cost carriers, DSA once hosted bases and regular operations for Jet2.com and seasonal services from TUI and other budget airlines, but it ceased scheduled commercial flights in 2022, so travelers should check nearby airports when planning routes.
