Diego Aracena International Airport (IQQ) opened in the late 1960s and operates from a single passenger terminal, serving as the main gateway to Iquique and Chile’s Tarapacá region. This medium-sized airport handles mainly domestic and regional flights, ideal for travelers bound for the Atacama coast, desert attractions and the ZOFRI free trade zone. Located roughly a 30–45 minute drive from downtown Iquique, it’s connected by regular shuttle buses, taxis and car rental services via the Pan-American Highway. Generally more affordable than larger Chilean hubs, IQQ is served by LATAM Chile, SKY Airline and JetSMART and functions as an important northern Chilean base for regional services.
