Dalanzadgad Airport (DLZ) opened in the mid-1950s and today operates from a single compact terminal as the main air gateway to Mongolia’s Ömnögovi province and the Gobi Desert. This small but strategically important regional airport handles regular domestic flights and seasonal charters for tourists bound for the famous desert landscapes, with road connections and short taxi rides to Dalanzadgad town center and nearby tour camps; public minibus service is limited. It’s generally an affordable option for domestic travel, with competitive fares on MIAT Mongolian Airlines and smaller local carriers (and occasional charter operators), though it’s not a major airline hub.
