Chiang Rai International Airport

Mae Fah Luang–Chiang Rai International Airport opened in the early 1990s and today operates from a single passenger terminal, serving as the compact international gateway to northern Thailand. Smaller than Bangkok airports but vital for tourists heading to the Golden Triangle, Doi Tung and nearby mountain towns, Chiang Rai International handles a mix of domestic and seasonal international flights, often at budget-friendly fares compared with larger hubs. The airport sits roughly 8–12 km from Chiang Rai city center with taxi, shuttle and rental-car links plus limited local buses, and while it isn’t a major airline hub it sees frequent services from Thai AirAsia, Nok Air and Thai Lion Air as well as regional charters.
