Chennai International Airport, opened in 1948, is the primary gateway to Tamil Nadu with two main passenger terminals and a busy cargo complex, ranking among India’s largest airports. Situated in the Meenambakkam area, it’s a vital hub for southern India’s IT and automobile industries and offers extensive domestic and regional international connections. The airport is well served by Chennai’s suburban rail network, the metro, frequent city buses and plentiful taxis, making downtown and the IT corridor easy to reach. Generally more affordable than Mumbai or Delhi for dining and parking, Chennai is a major base for IndiGo and hosts significant operations for SpiceJet and Air India Express.
