Bhairawa Airport, also known locally as Gautam Buddha Airport, began life as a small regional field in the 1950s and today operates a single modern terminal after recent upgrades to serve international and domestic flights. It’s a compact but important gateway to Lumbini and the Terai, handling modest passenger volumes and offering an easier, less crowded alternative to Kathmandu for pilgrims and budget travelers. Ground connections are straightforward with regular buses, taxis and road links to Siddharthanagar and Lumbini (short drives), though public-transport options are more limited than in bigger cities. Fares tend to be affordable on domestic routes, and the airport is a base for carriers such as Buddha Air, Nepal Airlines and Yeti Airlines.
