Bauerfield Airport

Bauerfield Airport (VLI), the main gateway to Port Vila, Vanuatu, was originally built during World War II in 1942 and today operates from a single compact terminal serving both international and domestic flights. As the country’s busiest airport, Bauerfield is small but vital for tourism and local travel, with regular services to Australia, New Caledonia, Fiji and neighboring islands. Located about 6 km from downtown Port Vila, it’s easily reached by taxi, hotel shuttle or rental car—public transport is limited. Air Vanuatu uses Bauerfield as its primary hub, while Aircalin, QantasLink, Virgin Australia and Fiji Airways also operate scheduled routes; airfares can be higher than regional averages, though on-site costs are moderate.
