Baubau Airport

Baubau’s Betoambari Airport, opened around the 1970s, is a compact regional airport with a single modest terminal that punches above its weight as the main gateway to Buton Island and southeastern Sulawesi. Busy with domestic connections rather than international routes, it links Baubau to Makassar, Kendari and neighboring islands via short flights on smaller turboprops. The airport lies a short 10–20 minute drive from Baubau city center and is easily reached by taxi, local minibuses or motorbike taxis, with road and ferry links for island transfers. Generally seen as budget-friendly for domestic travelers, it’s frequently served by Indonesian regional carriers such as Wings Air, Lion Air and other low-cost operators rather than major international hubs.
