Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport opened in 1999 on the site of the former Bergstrom Air Force Base and today operates a single main terminal with two concourses, serving as the primary mid-sized gateway to Austin and Central Texas. The airport is known for its live local music in the terminal and growing international routes, making it important for both business and leisure travelers. Located roughly 7–8 miles southeast of downtown, it’s easily reached by Highway 71 with Capital Metro buses, shuttles, taxis and ride-share options, plus on-site rental cars and parking. Fares are generally mid-priced with plenty of budget options—Southwest maintains a major presence and the airport also sees expanding service from legacy carriers.
