Auckland Airport opened in 1966 and is New Zealand’s largest and busiest airport, with two main terminals handling domestic and international traffic; it’s a key gateway for both long-haul and regional flights. Located about 20–25 km south of Auckland CBD near Māngere, the airport is well connected by the SH20 motorway, frequent SkyBus and public coach services, taxis and car rentals—while a dedicated rail link remains a future plan. Prices for food, parking and shops tend to be mid-to-high compared with city alternatives, but competitive fares are common thanks to carriers based here; it serves as the primary hub for Air New Zealand and a base for Jetstar and several Pacific operators.
