Ashgabat Airport

Ashgabat Airport is Turkmenistan’s main gateway, featuring one large marble-clad terminal (with separate international and domestic halls) and a modern facility that replaced the older Soviet-era complex when the new terminal opened in 2016. As the capital’s primary airport, it handles regional and international flights and serves as the hub for Turkmenistan Airlines, connecting Ashgabat with Russia, the Gulf and neighbouring Central Asian cities. Located roughly 10–15 km from the city center, the airport is most easily reached by taxi, private transfer or occasional airport shuttles—there’s no direct metro link. Travelers should expect mid-to-high fares due to limited carrier competition and fewer budget options.
