Opened in 1931, Allegheny County Airport in West Mifflin is a compact reliever airport for the Pittsburgh region with a single small passenger terminal, multiple hangars and fixed-base operators. Although modest in size, it plays an important role for general aviation, charter flights, flight training and medical helicopters rather than major airlines. Located roughly 10–12 miles southeast of downtown Pittsburgh, the airport is easily reached by PA-885 and local bus links from Pittsburgh, with convenient on-site parking for drivers. Travelers generally find it more affordable than Pittsburgh’s international airport for parking and local fees, and it serves as a base for regional charter and corporate operators rather than a commercial airline hub.
