Aitutaki Airport

Aitutaki Airport, opened in the 1950s, is a compact single-terminal airport that acts as the main gateway to Aitutaki’s famous lagoon in the Cook Islands. Small but vital, it handles inter-island and seasonal international services and is key for tourists heading to nearby resorts and motu. Located a short drive from the main village of Arutanga, the airport is reachable by taxi, resort shuttle or limited local buses, with boat transfers available for some accommodations. Not a major airline hub, it’s regularly served by Air Rarotonga and sees seasonal flights from larger carriers; fares can be higher than mainland routes due to remoteness, though short hops remain relatively affordable.
