Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala, commonly called Agartala Airport, traces its roots to the 1940s and was upgraded to international status in the late 2010s. The compact airport has a single passenger terminal after recent expansion and is the main gateway to Tripura and India’s northeast, handling domestic and limited international services. It’s about 12 km from Agartala city centre with regular taxis, shared autos, buses and a short drive to Agartala railway station, making connections easy. Flights are generally competitively priced compared with major metros, and carriers such as IndiGo, SpiceJet and Air India operate frequent services here, with IndiGo often running multiple daily sectors.
