Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD), opened in the early 1960s (1962), is Ethiopia’s primary gateway with two main passenger terminals and extensive cargo facilities, making it one of East Africa’s most important aviation hubs. The airport handles a mix of long-haul and regional flights and serves as the primary hub for Ethiopian Airlines, with a strong presence of regional partners. Located about 6–7 km southeast of central Addis Ababa, Bole is well connected by taxis, airport shuttles, city buses and road links that typically take 20–40 minutes depending on traffic; light rail and shuttle connections are gradually improving. For travelers, Bole often offers competitively priced connections, particularly on Ethiopian Airlines and regional carriers, making it generally affordable for international and connecting flights.
