Abilene Regional Airport (ABI) first opened in the mid-1940s and today operates a single compact terminal that handles regional commercial flights and general aviation. As the primary gateway to Abilene and much of West Texas, ABI is small but strategically important for local business and leisure travelers. The airport sits a short 10–15 minute drive from downtown Abilene with easy access via I-20 and nearby state highways; public transit is limited, so taxis, rideshares, shuttles and rental cars are the most common connections. ABI is generally affordable, with competitively priced regional fares and modest parking fees, and is served mainly by regional carriers connecting passengers through major Texas hubs rather than functioning as a hub itself.
