Abha Regional Airport first opened in the late 1970s (around 1977) and today operates from a single main passenger terminal, handling regional and domestic traffic for Saudi Arabia’s mountainous Asir province. Though compact compared with Riyadh or Jeddah, Abha is an important gateway for travelers heading to Abha city and nearby mountain resorts, with regular services that connect to major Saudi hubs. Ground access is straightforward—taxis, car hire and regional buses link the airport to the city in roughly 20–40 minutes depending on traffic. Fares tend to be affordable on domestic routes, and the airport acts as a regional base for Saudia and popular low-cost carriers such as flynas and flyadeal.
