Whitehorse Airport opened in 1942 as a military airfield and was later designated Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport in 2008; it operates from a single passenger terminal and serves as the primary gateway to Yukon for travelers and freight. The regional airport is modest in size but important for northern connectivity, offering regular flights to hubs like Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton and acting as a base for Yukon carrier Air North. Located roughly 8–10 km from downtown via the Alaska Highway, it’s reachable by taxis, rental cars and scheduled shuttles. Fares can be higher than southern hubs but competition from Air North helps keep many routes reasonably priced.
