Taichung International Airport

Taichung International Airport (RMQ) began life as a military airfield in the 1930s and opened to civilian traffic in the 1970s; today its single passenger terminal handles a medium-sized mix of domestic and regional flights and serves central Taiwan as a convenient alternative to Taipei. Located roughly 15–25 km from downtown Taichung, the airport is well connected by city buses, airport shuttles, taxis and road links to the Taichung HSR and main highways for quick access to nearby cities. RMQ is favored by budget travelers thanks to several low-cost carriers and group airlines operating frequent services; it also functions as a base for carriers such as Mandarin Airlines and Uni Air, offering generally affordable fares compared with larger international gateways.
