Nome Airport, established in the 1920s, is a compact regional airport with a single small passenger terminal that serves as the main aviation gateway to western Alaska and the Bering Sea coast. Though modest in size, it’s an important hub for cargo, medevac and commuter air service, and is the headquarters/base for regional carrier Bering Air. Located just a short drive from downtown Nome with taxis, rental cars and limited shuttle service, the airport offers regular connections to Anchorage and nearby remote communities via regional airlines. Travelers should expect higher-than-average fares compared with the Lower 48, though competitive regional routes and seasonal deals can help keep costs down.
