Opened in 1939, Albuquerque International Sunport is New Mexico’s largest airport and a medium-sized gateway serving the city and statewide travel needs from a single terminal with two concourses. Conveniently located roughly 3–4 miles southeast of downtown Albuquerque, the Sunport offers quick access by local ABQ RIDE buses, airport shuttles, taxis, rideshares and car rentals — typically a 10–15 minute drive — and is the obvious entry point for events like the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta and nearby Sandia Mountains. Fares are generally competitive compared with major hubs, with a strong presence from Southwest as a focus carrier plus regular service by American, Delta and United regional partners.
